For sure, and according to Christakis and Fowler’s research, the people who are connected to you have a bigger influence than the people who are one or two degrees out.

But the point is to pay attention to who you’re allowing to get close to you. If they’re running in circles that might be contradictory to what you’re hoping to become, it’s perhaps safer to keep some distance.
